Abbasi dynasty has given many cities that remained very legendary in the world especially in Arabian lot. Samara city has been capital of Abbasids after Baghdad.  As such Baghdad was first and foremost innovated by Abbasids too. Samara city is one of the most important Arabian cities in Iraq. It is located on the left bank of the Tigris, 135 km north of Baghdad. It was founded at the time of Muatassim Billah, the eighth Abbasid caliph, in 221 A.H. / 836 A.D. for political and social reasons.

It was the dwelling place of seven Abbasi caliphs after Muatassim Billah upto Muatamid alallah for some time and then they used to inhabit back to Baghdad.

Archaeological excavations in Samara discovered a number of the caliphs’ palaces, such as the palaces of al-Asheq, al-Bellawra, al-Fawqani, al-Badi’ and al-Jawasaq al-Khaqani, as well as other Islamic monuments. Moreover, Samara’s special Islamic arts symbolize an important era in the times gone by of the development of Islamic arts in the eastern and western parts of the Islamic world.

At the moment, Arabs and Muslims give it an august status, as the tombs of Imam Ali Al-hadi and of his son Hassan Al-askari, are positioned there.
